But I thought I was so much cooler....
I've been a flute player for 30 years and I always thought that I was destined for something so much cooler. Ha! Looks like I am what I am, huh?

a long. long time ago
Ok, not that long, but about a year and a half ago, I did a meme called "where are you from"?
The rules, some examples and a whole lotta links are here. It is a poem about where you are from using common objects, nostalgia, places, people, etc.
I still get more links to this entry than any other so I thought I would post my response to the meme again and see if I can get anyone else interested in giving it a try. It was a lot of fun to write.
Ok, here's mine:

I am from Coleman lanterns, canvas tents that glow in the damp sun of Rhode Island mornings and summer camping trips on pine needle carpets.
I am from static-filled broadcasts on AM radios of baseball heroes—from Mays and Swoboda, from McGraw and Seaver. I am from late night car rides home from Shea Stadium, from sleeping on the backseat watching the tunnel lights slide by in yellow tubes, from the gentle “kathump kathump” of the highway, from “we’ll get ‘em next year” and “ya gotta believe!”
I am from Captain Kangaroo, The Electric Company, The Magic Garden with its chuckle patch, from Holly Hobbie and Easy Bake Ovens used to bake cat food pies. I am from harvest gold and avocado green, from turntables and cassettes, from Tupperware in cascading stacks in the pantry closet.
I am from warm, homemade Christmas cookies, from presents Christmas morning, from Santa, from magic.
I am from yarn bows in long pigtails, from Brownie Uniforms and hoagie sales. I am from 45s of Daddy’s Little Girl, from Dave Brubeck, from big bands, from stadiums that echo Sing Sing Sing…yeah, yeah.
I am from birthday parties at the roller rink and giggling pajama parties. I am from feathered hair and school dances.

saturday sunday morning me
Hmm. Haven't done one of these in a while. Yes, I know it's not Saturday but I am a little slaphappy from my night of insomnia.
Saturday Morning Me
Hair: unkempt and a little bed-heady.
Wearing: jammies. cute striped cotton jammie pants and a grey t-shirt. I am so happy that it is finally cool enough to wear some of my favorites again.
Listening: Leave the Pieces - The Wreckers
Watching: J is watching an old Saturday Night Live in the background. Antonio Banderas is hosting. mmmmm.
Eating: Getting ready to head out to the diner so we beat the "crazy church people"**
Drinking: A nice hot cuppa tea. My favorite right now is Oriental Spice from Adagio

** No we don't think church people are crazy--necessarily. We just use this to refer to the enormous crowds that hit the diners immediately following church on Sundays.

Wait for me...I wanna play too!
While I was gone all the cool kids were doing the quote meme. Go here and choose 5 (hah!) quotes that you like, that speak to you, that make you smile, whatever.
I think I am a quotaholic or a quote addict...anyway here are my 5 9 quotes:
A little nonsense now and then, is cherished by the wisest men.
Roald Dahl (1916 - 1990), (Willy Wonka) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental or spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest.
John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873), On Liberty, 1859
To be nobody-but-yourself -- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else -- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.
e e cummings (1894 - 1962)
A room without books is like a body without a soul.
Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC), (Attributed)
Woe be to him that reads but one book.
George Herbert (1593 - 1633)
Everybody likes to go their own way--to choose their own time and manner of devotion.
Jane Austen (1775 - 1817), Mansfield Park
I do not want people to be agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them.
Jane Austen
Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals ... except the weasel.
Matt Groening, The Simpsons
I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music.
George Eliot

Ok, so still no comments. I have emailed a few people who have much more of a clue about such things and hopefully someone (anyone?) will be able to help.
Until then...I thought I would be the very last person to hop on the photo meme.
You know the drill--ask me for photos of anything you want and as long as the requests are within reason (not too revealing or obscene) I will oblige.

are there still six things??
Hmm. I have been tagged over at weaker vessel to tackle the "six things" meme. Are there six things I haven't managed to blather on about? Let's give it a go.
1) I used to have a pet raccoon. Actually, I had two pet raccoons, just not at the same time. One was named Kizzie (Roots was big at the time if that gives away my age a bit. I also had a cat named Kunta Kitty. No need to wonder where I get my peculiar sense of humor! lol) the raccoons were both rescues and were treated like any other family pet. They came in the house, learned to play football and knew how to reach through the couch and goose you while you were watching TV. They ate anything but were fond of fruit loops and mittens that were foolishly stuck through the outside cage.
2) I was excused from participating in tennis in gym in HS because I managed to hit myself in the head with a tennis racquet. Yes folks, that's how coordinated I am. Don't underestimate this. Do you know how difficult it is to accidentally whack yourself in the head with a racquet? It's a gift and I had the mesh-marked forehead to prove it. Anyway, it also got me out of archery.
3) I have John Denver's Greatest Hits (plus a few more) on my mp3 player. That's right, I know all the words too. And...I smile just a bit when they come on. That's just how cool I am.
4) I was a triple threat geek in HS--band, chorus and theater. And not just in a small way--concert band, jazz band, marching band, pit band, chorus, women's chorus, madrigals. I was in Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, South Pacific, The Boy Friend and some summer stock. Oh yes, when I do geeky I go all out.
5) I am a Mets fan. Yes, yes, I know, that's not a new fact. But I hated Reggie Jackson so much that I once smooshed a stack of Reggie bars with my thumb in the store. I still feel a little guilty about that. I was a kid, really. Reggie was just in the movie Benchwarmers and when I saw him a little flood of guilt came whooshing back. Sorry Reg, really.
6) I cheated on my Girl Scout badges. I just signed the leader's name (my mom!) on the pages so I could get a cool amount of badges without having to do any nerdy activities dressed in that ridiculous green outfit. I still have the sash. I so would have gotten the forgery badge or the get out of doing things badge but they weren't in the book.
Tag 6 people?
Hmmm. Not sure who has already done this so the first 6 people to do it and post back get an attaboy attagirl attablogger
Ready...go!

the last one to play
Very cool music meme as seen everywhere else before you saw it here.
Go to your music player of choice and put it on shuffle. Say the following questions aloud, and press play. Use the song title as the answer to the question. NO CHEATING.
How does the world see you?
"Stay Home" by Self (Shrek Soundtrack) What? So I don't get out much. Shut it. :-)
Will I have a happy life?
"Nocturne" by Billy Joel Cold Spring Harbor I choose to think that this implies happy nights and not anything darker.
What do my friends really think of me?
"All Star" by Smash Mouth bwahahahahahha! I knew it! You guys rock, really!
Do people secretly lust after me?:
"Easy to Love" by Harry Connick Jr - Come By Me. I am not easy...oh wait....easy to love. Ok. Maybe. Don't ask Sparky though, he might not agree.
How can I make myself happy?
"Fever" by Michael Buble. Umm. ok.
What should I do with my life?
"The Beaches of Cheyenne" by Garth Brooks. Road trip? I don't think that would be the destination, but who knows?
Will I ever have children?
"Real Wild Child" by Brian Setzer - Rockabilly Riot hahahha. I swear this is what came up. I think it is warning me of what happened the last time we had some ;)
What is some good advice for me?
"Don't Let Me Die Still Wondering" by Flogging Molly - Within a Mile of Home
How will I be remembered?
"Writing to Reach You" by Travis - The Man Who. Writing? Not whining about writing? Not procrastinating instead of writing? We'll see...
What is my signature dancing song?
"What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)" by Information Society. Haha. When I was an undergrad (the first time!) I was getting ready to go out to a party (which explains why I didn't graduate that time around!) and I was dancing to this album while curling my hair--it was the 80s after all--and dropped the curling iron into my eye. This resulted in me partying with a very pirate-y eye-patch for a week or so.
What do I think my current theme song is?
"Boppin' the Blues" by Brian Setzer - Rockabilly Riot. ok. maybe.
What does everyone else think my current theme song is?
"Medley:Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine" by 5th Dimension - Forrest Gump Sountrack ????
What song will play at my funeral?
"Prima Donna" - Sountrack - Phantom of the Opera. Hey! I am not!
What type of men/women do you like?
"Under Your Spell" - Soundtrack - Once More With Feeling (Buffy the Musical)
What is my day going to be like?
"alone" by Eddie From Ohio - This is Me. awwwww. that's no fun. The next song was "Anything Goes" - from the De-Lovely Soundtrack.
Ok, all that new music and it was a Soundtrack-fest. haha. I guess that's appropriate.
If there is anyone else on the planet who hasn't done this yet...have at it.

I put mine up on my blog for you (and for me)!
At least you didn't get a bunch of middle aged guys (I actually matched the guys better than the women.) Sheesh! Looks like I can be Dorothy in the story of your life at least.
I had J.K rowling which came right after T.E. Lawrence. I also aparently look like Dr. Dre, Hugh GRant, Charlize Theron, Britney Spears, Peter Ustrinov, The Douglas family, Michael moore, etc.
* I tested 8 photos, and only had 2 duplicate answers. Wacky!
very cool! though i'm a little disappointed to see that i scored Monica Lewinsky on my list... eek! i'll take Keira Knightly and Brad Pitt though!
Hmmm... it can't seem to find faces in any of my pictures. If I select the face, there are no matches. What does this mean? It means I need to get into acting because I'd be such an original and nobody would confuse me for someone else! YES!
That thing is just terrible addictive. I repeatedly got Neve Campbell and Scarlett Johansson.

You Have a Choleric Temperament
|
You are a person of great enthusiasm - easily excited by many things.
Unsatisfied by the ordinary, you are reaching for an epic, extraordinary life.
You want the best. The best life. The best love. The best reputation.
You posses a sharp and keen intellect. Your mind is your primary weapon.
Strong willed, nothing can keep you down. Your energy can break down any wall.
You're an instantly passionate person - and this passion gives you an intoxicating power over others.
At your worst, you are a narcissist. Full of yourself and even proud of your faults.
Stubborn and opinionated, you know what you think is right. End of discussion.
A bit of a misanthrope, you often see others as weak, ignorant, and inferior.

Have to say that that description has you pegged pretty well.
I know that you'd be terribly suprised if I told you that it came up with "Meloncholic" for me.
Melancholic. That sounds about right.

Quirky, offbeat, and even a little campy - your life appeals to a select few.

so often misunderstood...
Semicolon
You scored 30% Sociability and 82% Sophistication!
|
Congratulations! You are the semicolon! You are the highest expression
of punctuation; no one has more of a right to be proud. In the hands of
a master, you will purr, sneering at commas, dismissing periods as
beneath your contempt. You separate and connect at the same time, and
no one does it better. The novice will find you difficult to come to
terms with, but you need no one. You are secure in your elegance,
knowing that you, and only you, have the power to mark the skill or
incompetence of the craftsman.
You have no natural enemies; all fear you.
And never, NEVER let anyone tell you that you cannot appear in
dialogue! |

tag, i'm it
I was tagged by scott. I’m supposed to list ten things that make me happy and then “charge six others with the same miserable burden.” So here goes…
1. kids playing without arguing
2. my morning ritual of tea and buffy
3. smelly, old books
4. cracking the binding on crisp, new books
5. the lightbulb moment when an idea really clicks and new research still looks promising.
6. Singing along to music. (Especially show tunes!) (thanks scott!)
7. making music with blawenburg
8. baseball (yes, even when the mets are....well, the mets! but also little league games with c or just playing in the yard with hubby and the boys)
9. snugging up with the boys and a good movie
10. blogging
Tag, you're it.
I won't tag you if six of you promise to give it a try, 'k? Yes, you too. I know you are reading, I checked the stats. :)
Now, have at it.

five questions
I saw this at B*'s. If you'd like to be asked questions, post a comment on this post and then I'll email 5 of them to you. You must then respond to the questions on your blog and offer to ask other people 5 questions.
1. When and how did you decide you wanted to go on to graduate school
in your field? Did you always "just know," or were you inspired in
some way?
2. When did you start loving the Mets and why?
3. What are you looking forward to about starting graduate school?
4. What is a fear or concern you have about starting graduate school,
and how will you take on and address this fear or concern?
5. What is the funniest or most entertaining thing your boys have said
or done lately?
answers are in the extended entry:

1. When and how did you decide you wanted to go on to graduate school
in your field? Did you always "just know," or were you inspired in
some way?
I had no idea at all what I wanted to be when I "grew up." After high school I went to college for music but the talented musician track didn't pan out so well. I wound up majoring more in drinking and dating and reasoned that it must have been because I was a terrible student - just not cut out for academics. But when the kids were little I thought I would go back to school and finish up. At least get some degree...something. I started back by taking the one course that scared me the most - the one that I knew I would hate the most. I knew that if I could get through that I would be fine. So I signed up for Research Writing. I had to take it. It was a core requirement. But this was the course I had dropped twice my last attempt at college.
I loved it. I loved the course, the prof, the assignment, but most of all just the environment. Still, a part of me was hesitant until the prof who would later turn out to be my advisor/mentor/friend told me that he was never a great student. He just loved the courses. He told me I should consider teaching college - go to grad school. And the light went on. I never thought that was an option for me. Now, I am not sure what else I would do.
2. When did you start loving the Mets and why?
hahaha. There are other teams?? I loved the Mets as soon as I was old enough to say "we'll get 'em next year!" I slept with a stuffed Dave Kingman doll and knew all the team stats. I have been around for both Mets World Series' wins (although I don't remember the first one!). We still listen or watch every game. I think I have only missed two this season and I was on vacation. They might not always win, but it's always an adventure. And it has always been a way to connect with family even if we felt far away - even when I was a rotten teenager there was always baseball to talk about. (And those were good Met years!) But there is something to be said for rooting for the underdog, and most years...the Mets are just that. It's a rollercoaster ride. Just today they had me cheering, anxious, angry and disappointed and that was in just one inning. lol.
The boys are being raised as good Met fans. They cheer for the Mets...and whoever is playing the Yankees ;)
3. What are you looking forward to about starting graduate school?
I can't wait to get started on just English classes. No more wasting time and money with core courses, just digging into the classes that I really enjoy. I can't wait to be challenged and worked up and get that feeling that you get after a heated discussion when the class is over and you still can't stop working through it in your head. I can't wait to get to that point in a research project where it isn't work any more, where you lose track of time for hours on end and are stuck in a giant pile of post-its and photocopies. I know it doesn't happen all the time and that I will spend a lot of time (most likely on here) griping about some assignment or another that is due and I haven't started, but every once in a while you just get in the groove and I love that.
4. What is a fear or concern you have about starting graduate school,
and how will you take on and address this fear or concern?
I have a pretty common fear, I think. I worry that someone is going to tap me on the shoulder and say, "Hey! You aren't supposed to be here. This is where the really smart people are. Who did you think you were kidding? We read that last paper and we know you were BS-ing." I worry that I am not prepared. I worry that I am not like some of the academics that I know that live only for research and work. I love it. But I also love a good cheesy movie. I love reading Chaucer and Langland but I also loved Time Traveler's Wife and sometimes it feels as if I don't fit in if I don't claim to be all academia all the time. Look at the answer above! Most of the profs I know just shake their head when I say I am going to watch a game. Baseball? Really?
How will I handle this? I just keep working at it. I know that my work has improved. I know that I was lucky to have friends that were also profs, who knew my goals and helped me along the way so that I would be more prepared. And if I don't fit in there? I will find somewhere that I do.
One of the nice things about reading academic blogs is that I get to see that some academics actually have other interests, and they even blog! lol. I also get to see that some of the fears that I have are common, especially ones that have to do with getting published, etc. Right now, I am going to handle this one class at a time. That's how I got through undergrad, that's how I will get through this. And the truth is that I understand it is going to be difficult. I know that I am going to be hard pressed to find a tenure track job that is within commuting distance. I realize that I am limiting things even further by choosing to be a Medievalist. But there isn't anything else I can see myself doing, anything else that I want to do.
5. What is the funniest or most entertaining thing your boys have said
or done lately?
When we were in Maine we were browsing in a cute kitschy shop in Bar Harbor. It is one of the places that has funny bumper stickers and magnets, t-shirts and gag gifts, etc. The boys were with us but we were steering them from the more inappropriate items. C came running over to me giggling and holding up what looked like an altoids tin. "Look at this mom! This is too funny!" he was laughing, "This tin says, 'I love my pennies!' Isn't that funny?" Only it didn't say "pennies" it said, "I love my penis!" and he is running around the store waving it in the air and laughing. Like a good mom I immediately looked for my camera while his brother wasted no time explaining C's error. This, of course, resulted in more laughing until we got so loud we thought it best to leave the store before we were asked to. Hey, between that and the boob mountains it was a fun day!

Thanks for these answers! They're great. As far as wondering whether you'll fit in academia, I understand that fear. I had it myself for a while. How about this? Perhaps your standpoint doesn't feel common (although, as you suggested, reading blogs helps you feel more normal), but it might be an important standpoint that allows you to contribute uniquely to the field! if you thought just like everyone else, your perspective wouldn't be as valuable, right? :)

Oooh so many I have read, a lot of them the same as you. Quite a few I'm suprised aren't there. Like Enid Blyton's Famous Five books, The Mr Men books, Milly Molly Mandy, and what about Meg and Mog? Mind you these are all UK books.
My favourite book when I was little was called Timothy and the Forest Folk but I have never seen it since.
How can Eloise not be on there! Her hijinks at the Plaza, come on!
Damn, you're read a lot more of these than me!

There is no absolute truth for you; even the most hardened facts are open to interpretation. Meaning relies on context and even the language you use to describe things should be subject to analysis.

books books books
a fun book meme sent over by N~
but before i start...if you haven't already checked, please go over to my reading group and check out the list of upcoming books. i would love to have more people join in. and yes, in answer to emails, it is open to absolutely anyone who wants to read along. and no, if you say you are interested and then can't finish the book, or your schedule gets crazy, we will not hunt you down. so go take a look at what's coming up.
ok, book meme:
You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to be?
This was the most difficult question for me because, *gasp* I have never read this (although I get the gist of the question) and how do you choose just one? So I have an idea. I would choose The Eyre Affair - Jasper Fforde so that I would have the ability to move between books. Cheating? Yes....and no. It may seem a strange choice, but a world where literature is the premiere form of entertainment and all else is secondary is very appealing. It isn't my all-time favorite book, but I think it suits me for this question.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
Hell yes. Lots. But my favorites would be Mr. Knightley or Mr. Darcy. Yes, I know I am a cornball but they just don't make men like that any more! And look at the film adaptations--even modernizations. How can you not have a crush on Colin Firth as either Mr. Darcy or Mark Darcy?
The last book you bought is:
Blameless in Abaddon on a strong recommendation by mac. How could I resist a satirical book that causes arguments about religion and includes a religious theme park? I'll let you know how it is. I am looking forward to it.
The last book you read:
White Teeth - Zadie Smith. I first read this one about two summers ago and fell immediately in love with it. I recently finished a re-read in a Contemp. Brit. Lit. course. So while technically this is the last book I read, it was for class. Having said that, if you haven't read this one, you should. Amazing debut for a young writer. The book spans multiple generations of two families in London. The families are connected by the unlikely friendship of Archie and Samad who met "fighting" in the war. It deals with race, gender and the complexities of family. Go have a look at the reviews since I cannot do it justice.
What are you currently reading?
Lost in a Good Book - Jasper Fforde. This is the sequel to the book in my first answer. I am enjoying it so far, but it isn't quite as strong or engaging as the first. I'll post a review when I get through.
Five books you would take to a deserted island:
First of all....five????? Who could possibly survive on a deserted island with just five??? sheesh!
Ok, here goes....Riverside Chaucer (c'mon...you had to see that one coming!), Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver, A Prayer for Owen Meany - John Irving, Les Miserables - Victor Hugo, Gone with the Wind - Margeret Mitchell. (Can't we bring huge Norton's anthologies??? I am not going to make it with just 5 books!)
Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 people) and why?
See now, I am posting this so that everyone gets to play. 3 people? oh no, I was stuck being limited to 5 books, I am not limiting this to three people! If you don't have a blog you can post in the comments or just answer the questions you think might be fun.
Off to nap. My node id all stupped up.

Count me in the for the summer. I barely have time to read what I need to for the school year.
Okay...I don't get the Farenheit 451 reference, as I have also never read it - Ray Bradbury writes bad science fiction IMO.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
No
Last book you bought?
_Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life_ by Alison Weir. A very good read, and she's someone I could have a crush on.
Last book you read?
I tend to read two books - one heavy, one light, so....
_The DaVinci Code_ by Dan Brown [yawn] and _The Harrowing of Gwyendd_ by Katherine Kurtz
What are you currently reading?
_Holy Blood, Holy Grail_ by Michael Baigent, et al. and _King Javan's Year_ by Katherine Kurtz
Five books you would take to a desert island:
The collected works of Edgar Allan Poe (since he's a poet and short story writer, and his work isn't published in his original format, I think I can get away with this one), _Illusions_ by Richard Bach, _Beat to Quarters_ by C.S. Forster, _Dracula_ by Bram Stoker, and _Paradise Lost_ by John Milton

where are you from?
i thought if i was going to ask you to write where you are from i should work on it myself.
i am still tweaking and playing with this and will continue to edit for a long time, but here is the first draft:
I am from bands and auditions, from concerts and rehearsals. I am from trills and crescendos. I am from Sousa and Tchaikovsky. I am from Oklahoma! and Man of La Mancha, from West Side Story and Les Miserables and Wicked at times.
I am from Wonderful World of Disney on special Sunday nights eating in the living room with foil trays and Salisbury steaks, from Happy Days, from Little House on the Prairie, from the Waltons. I am from staying up late to watch the Grinch or the Great Pumpkin and from once a year showings of the Wizard of Oz at Grammie’s house in our PJs.
I am from books—from dusty pages and leather covers, from tearing bindings and watercolored pictures of silly ol’ bears and piglets. I am from classics and quirky novels. I am from Dr. Suess, The Fattest Cat, and The Monster at the End of This Book. I am from Irving, Tolkien, Kingsolver. I am from Dickens, Chaucer and Yeats.
I am from suspended disbelief, from ET, from StarWars, from all things possible.
I am from stubbornness, intelligence, creativity and pride. I am from tolerance and caring, from standing up for what’s right. I am from finding humor and adventure in the most unusual places. I am from dreamers and builders.
I am from finding spirituality in pine trees and campfires, in nature walks and quiet lakes, in silent stadiums and stages.
I am from family, from vacation adventures, from noisy, rambunctious boys, from laughing ‘til my sides hurt, from card games and board games, from singing in the car and from snuggling on the couch.

I am from inspiration to create my own version of this meme. I am also from the The Magic Garden, The greatest childrens television show EVER! I thought as a child that Sherman the squrrel was my best friend, and that the chuckle patch was the funniest thing EVER! I loved the show so much, I considered going to see Carole & Paula a couple of years ago. I also have to admit that I was absolutely in LOVE with Carole as a five year old.
I guess Sherman might not have liked me since I was calling him Sherman, and his name was Sherlock! I am soo sorry Sherlock. Please forgive me.
This is a great exercise, I had a go over at my blog and found it very rewarding. I also enjoyed reading your poem, you've got a talent there keep it up!
Hi Michelle,
This is very nice; I'm glad that you wrote one, too. I thought it was such an interesting exercise. I found myself nodding my head a number of times while reading yours. I, too, am from turntables and cassettes, concerts and rehearsals, Wonderful World of Disney while eating in the living room, and more.
Melinama and Fred (Fragments from Floyd) are both keeping lists of these; I know they'd like to know where yours is.

The joys of PBS...I wasn't subjected to [explitive deleted] baseball or political diatribes. Just Julie Andrews and fantastic music. Unfortunately, that'll only last until Thursday and the other two will continue to annoy for weeks.

No...not a surprise. Would it surprise you, though, that I "agreed"? (I guess it does actually happen sometimes) ...and I generally think of myself as "fire". Hmm.
OOHHh...I got wind too! Thats cuz we all rock!!!
OK - you didn't that this quiz was mainly for women... I think the "Straight. I love penises." line sort of gave it away for me ;)

i don't usually play, but this sounds like it could be interesting!
Think of 3 pictures you'd like to see. Leave whatever you'd like to see in the comments. Things around my house, or whatever... something I can take a picture of easily. Once I have enough requests, I'll start posting them. If I can't, or won't, take a picture of something you've requested, I'll let you know.
ok, play nice and i'll see what i can do!

Hmmm...Spiderman. I might buy that in the "dark, early 70's" animated version.
Then again, at War I was picked to be Dr. Strange, so who knows....

king, eh? well....i didn't vote for ya!
Oh, king eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.
Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

this one doesn't come as much of a surprise. geez, i wish the GREs were this easy to take!

You speak eloquently and have seemingly read every
book ever published. You are a fountain of
endless (sometimes useless) knowledge, and
never fail to impress at a party.
What people love: You can answer almost any
question people ask, and have thus been
nicknamed Jeeves.
What people hate: You constantly correct their
grammar and insult their paperbacks.

You should see Strictly Ballroom. Baz Luhrman did that prior to Moulin Rouge, and in many ways I think that Strictly Ballroom is a much better picture. Dirty Dancing with an Australian sense of humor - it makes the rounds on cable pretty regularly, so keep an eye out for it.
I am DEFINITELY doing this meme! Thanks a bunch and hope you had a great vacation!

You are a complete literary geek, from knowing the
classics (even the not-so-well-known classics
and tidbits about them) to knowing devices used
in writing, when someone has a question about
literature, they can bring it to you and rest
assured; you know the answers.
How much of a literary geek are you?

ORANGE
At work or in school: I need to be "hands on": I like to play games, to compete, and to perform. I enjoy flexibility, changes of pace, and variety. I have difficulty with routine and structure. My favorite subjects are music, art, theatre, and crafts. I often excel in sports. hahahahI like solving problems in active ways and negotiating for what I want. I can be direct and like immediate results.
With friends: Planning ahead bores me because I never know what I want to do until the moment arrives. I like to excite my friends with new and different things, places to go, and romantic moments. (as long as i can make a few lists!)
With family: I need a lot of space and freedom. I want everyone to have fun. It is hard for me to follow rules, and I feel we should all just enjoy one another.

Call me Blue (also MY favorite color) ..sincere, enhusiastic, spiritual, warm, sympathetic, communicative, and peaceful.
I'm as good as gold (and this is actually a pretty good description of me) -
GOLD:
At work or in school: I like set routines and organized ways of doing thingsl rules and directions are a great help to me. I prefer to stay on one topic at a time. I need to know what is expected of me, and I always want to know if I am on the right track. I like subjects that are useful and traditional, such as business, accounting, history and government.
With friends: I prefer people who are careful with their money and who make plans ahead of time. I like my friends to be loyal, dependable and on time. I am serious about love and show it in many practical ways.
With family: I like stability and security and enjoy traditions and frequent celebrations. I like to spend holidays with family members, and I plan ahead for such gatherings.

hmm. me and plath. who would've thought. oh shush. i know, i know.
Here's the poem that the quiz picked:
Mad Girl's Love Song
"I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
God topples from the sky, hell's fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan's men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
I fancied you'd return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)"
Here's the one I would have wanted....it is one of my all time favorites and the only poem I have ever memorized:
William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)
When You Are Old
When you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face among a crowd of stars.
but honestly i am probably more plath than yeats. whatcha gonna do?

Okay sappy. I am: Sonnet 17 by Pablo Neruda.
and I quote: "Aw, you're a romantic. You believe in true love and all that sort of stuff. How cute are you? To you love is incredible and amazing." Who woulda thunk it?
Hmmm...I'll have to check that out. Off the top of my head, though:
"And all my days are trances,
And all my nightly dreams
Are where thy grey eye glances,
And where thy footstep gleams-
In what ethereal dances,
By what eternal streams."
suddenly it's spring
and everyone's in love

most likely very creative and find yourself
thinking things through on a different level.

She'll have to fight me - I got Orlando too!
Maybe I'll check out my daughter's copy of Pirates of the Carribbean to see what he's all about.
I got Johnny Depp...Yummy! He may be strange, but damn is he sexy. *sigh*
Does that make me strange too? LOL!
I got Orlando too ... what does that say Sandra?
Oh - wait! I'm already married!!
Damn - the link isn't working now. I was going to show it to my daughter.
You are going to Marry orlando Bloom. He will
always treat you right and is very romantic. He
will do anything for you. He is very polite and
has deep brown eyes and is very good looking
(which is another plus!). He can make anythind
cheesy look really good (like sliding down
stairs on a shield shooting arrows or wearing
pointy ears for example). Congrats!!

still wasting time
interesting...it isn't what i usually pick although it might be closer...
haha..."arsenic poisoner or heretic queen" at least now i know what to go to grad school for.

WATER OF AIR. You're aloof, depressed and seasoned. You'd make a good psychologist, executioner, black widow, arsenic poisoner, heretic queen or commentator. You're too witty for your own good. Have to get up early in the morny morn to fool you, as you spot lies a mile away. And WOE TO THOSE who dare attempt such a stupid move. You're Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween, when she cuts Michael's head off. You're Anne Robinson, the host of The Weakest Link! |

Wow - dare I say they "nailed" you with this quiz.
Well, not aloof perhaps, and "seasoned" in what way, but witty, and spotting lies hmmm... executioner ??? maybe not.
I'll have to take that one.
We were walking
Just the other day
It was so hot outside
You could fry an egg.
Remember you were talking
I watched as sweat ran down your face
Reached up and I caught it at your chin
Licked my fingertips
We were just wasting time
Let the hours roll by
Doing nothing for the fun
A little taste of the good life
Whether right or wrong
Makes us want to stay, stay, stay for awhile
Then later on the sun began to fade
Then the clouds rolled over our heads
And it began to rain
Oh, we were dancing mouths open
Splashing tongue taste
For a moment this good time would never end
You and me
You and me
Just wasting time
I was kissing you,
You were kissing me love
From good day into a moonlight
Now a night so fine
Makes us wanna stay, stay, stay, stay for awhile
Makes you wanna...
Makes me wanna...
Don't it make you wanna?
Wasting time
I shall miss this thing
When it all rolls by
What a day...
Wanna stay, stay, stay, stay for awhile
Hey love
Oh just groping you
Rolling in the mud
Stay a while
Come on love
Wanna stay, stay, stay, stay for awhile
Makes me wanna, makes me wanna stay.
Makes me wanna, makes me wanna stay... don't it?
Make you wanna stay... don't it?
Funny quiz. Moon? *I* don't really think so, but who knows.... BTW...I had technical difficulties with it. I had to refresh the page a few times before it would display.
Queen of Swords? Really? I've always read you as Cups, not Swords. I don't think you're "dark" enough, though Lord knows that strife does follow you.
i usually use queen of cups too, but lately have been thinking it might not be the best card.
me? dark? *blink blink*
I'll have to re-read my LWB on that as I don't remember the attributes off the top of my head, but depending on the type of reading majors work as well, so the Empress has possibilities; I don't see you as the High Priestess. In my deck, you'd fit the Queen of Pentacles far too well, but that's a completely personal interpritation.
