(follow along...this will be a link-fest!)
while playing "hi! michele sent me!" over at michele's i found music and cats where i found this entry. it's a wonderful writing exercise that everyone should really try.
there is a link there to this example over at pratie placewhich includes links to a number of people who have already given it a try.
the original directions can be found here
it is a poem about where you are from using common objects, nostalgia, places, people, etc.
here's an example of a few lines from kimberly at music and cats:
I am from picture books. I am from Fiestaware and cut glass salt cellars. I am from tape measure, T-square and sawdust.
(whew! done linking....i think)
it looks like a very interesting writing exercise. it also looks like a good way to do some creative writing especially at a time in the semester when it is all research, all the time.
browse around the links. there are a lot of well written examples and even a suggested "template" if you would like.
if you decide to join in leave me a comment with a link to your "where i'm from" poem. if you don't have a blog i can post it here for you if you would like.
have fun. i am going to work on this after i trudge to class grumbling and cursing under my breath (or at the top of my lungs...either way!)
