i was reading a post over at bitch ph.d. about board games--her post was about remembering mousetrap to be much much more fun as a child than it turns out to be as an adult. there are a few games that are like that for me. i would be happy if i never played monopoly again! any version. slapping a new theme on it does not make it suck less time from my life!
anyway, since i am home with a sick kid and trying to keep him from watching tv the entire day, and since xmas is coming, a little list of our favorite board (and card) games to play.

rat-a-tat cat very fun card game for adults and kids (actually, most games by gamewright are pretty good)
any uno game
although our favorites right now are uno attack
and harry potter uno
we like card games here. i can't wait 'til they are old enough to play pinochle. right now the only chance i really get to play is on vacation with my dad since sparky doesn't really like to play. also the youngest has turned into quite the card player since his birthday where he scored poker chips, a table top, and a shuffler. watch out!
boggle
scrabble
cranium cadoo
this one never fails to have us laughing until we cry. we are thinking of adding in cards from the adult version to keep things fair.
gobblet
rubik's checker challenge - this is a great travel game. kids can play but adults can have a challenging match as well.
disney scene it
we let sparky use the kid cards to keep it fair ;)
pass the pigs
perfect for waiting in restaurants (the rule book is a riot!)
quoridor
abalone another good strategy game
c and j have been playing a lot of chess lately as well. nice to see them argue about a game that isn't connected to the tv!
so what are the favorite board games at your house? what are the ones you avoid at all costs?
