monday monday

ok, home stretch time. packing, cleaning, nagging J to pack--the basics. oh yes, and my brilliant plan to keep the kids home...

so did anyone watch the canterbury tales? i told you when it was on...tsk tsk.

it was rowdy, and bawdy, and fun. i was curious how they were going to handle a modernization of the tales. this first episode was "the wife of bath." if you were made to read any of the tales in school, this was probably among the few you would have read. it was the first i read--no longer my favorite (although my favorite changes at whim).

i enjoyed the little bits of the original that snuck in--the photo of her as gap toothed (a sign of her sexuality), her red pants (she is portrayed as wearing red stockings), the way they managed to combine the prologue and the tale. overall i thought it was well done.

i am not sure that i agreed with every little detail or with some of the nuances of her personality, but her character has always been the source of debate.

bravo to bbc for not sweetening it up. bawdy, sexy and fun. so if you haven't seen it, there are a few more chances. have a look. sex, sex, more sex, and a lot of fun. not a bad night of tv.
