The Rosetta Key by William Dietrich

The Rosetta Key by William Dietrich is set in 1799. Its protagonist is a Colonial American with connections to Napoleon who is seeking to solve a mystery in Egypt and Palestine.

The book reads more like an adventure film than an actual novel. In fact, I'm sure it would be a better movie than it is a book. As it stands, the characters are barely one-dimensional and the plot is shallow and not captivating. There are sprinkles of history for history's sake, which may appeal to those who are students of this era. But basically, this is a Davinci Code wannabe set in a different time and place.
