when you are faced with bad news and too many hormones and a rainy day, there really is only one answer...a night at the movies!
j and i went to see king arthur. i needed to be as far away from here as i could and it seemed that 452 AD would just about do it. the movie, well, there was enough eye candy in the form of men looking pensive and troubled while scruffy, sweaty and battleworn. oofah. and keira knightley looked amazing considering for a better portion of the movie she was wearing simply a belt and a harness. the story - distorted. if this were simply an action movie set in the time of arthur, i would say that it was a little slow to start, but filmed well, and a good summer action flick.
the thing is, this isn't just a movie set in the time of arthur. it's the story of arthur. and they are billing it as the true story of arthur and that is a load of hooey. (yeah, yeah i said load of hooey) so, see it if you want a decent summer action movie, but if you have a sentimental spot for arthur and his knights you may not like it as much. i don't care if they make the story a little more real, a little more gritty, a little more historical, but to sell it as the truth of the legend was a bit much. and to twist the story so that it can't be reconciled at all with the legend just didn't feel right. i don't need knights in shining armor and lords and ladies galavanting about. but i wanted something of the tale as it has existed for centuries.
