ok, if you are rolling your eyes, then...shoo, go away, i am not looking for a debate tonight...
otherwise, i went to a very interesting lecture this afternoon...
read more »the lecture was on film and art depictions of the jfk assassination. it didn't attempt at all to uncover any hidden conspiracies or anything like that. but we looked in depth at the opening montage (the first 7 minutes) of oliver stone's jfk. the chaos of flickering archive footage mixed seamlessly with recreations and the voice over.
we also got to see some underground art films from the 60s and 70s including one by conner called report. amazing stuff. at the point when the zapruder film would have provided the visual, he cuts to narrative only in garbled unedited archive tapes of radio and phone calls and the screen flickers in bursts of light and empty film frames. there were montage and collage scenes of bullfights representing death as a spectacle and other bits and pieces that i really need to see it again to remember. it was disturbing and fascinating.
some art from warhol and a few others and then time was up. i could have listened to this man speak for hours more. he was engaging and interesting and extremely knowledgable.
ok, so that's my geeky review of the afternoon and i am off to watch jfk in its entirety now with a new and fresh perspective.
