Belong to Me by Maria de los Santos
I truly loved Marisa de los Santos' Belong to Me. I'll fess up to the fact that this is a chick flick of a read, but it's a good one. The characters are layered and they deal with real life situations, from the mundane to the major. It is intelligently and introspectively written, and it engaged me. My favorite chapters are the ones written from Cornelia's perspective, because those are in the first person, and I truly enjoy Ms. de los Santos' first person, conversational writing style. I was sad to finish this book, because I enjoyed having this cast of characters in my life for the time that it took me to read it.
Belong to Me is the sequel to Ms. de los Santos' Love Walked In. I read Love Walked In a few weeks ago because I wanted to spend some more time with several of these characters. I enjoyed both of these stories greatly. I recommend reading Love Walked In first, though, because there are a lot of spoilers if you know the events of Belong to Me while reading the first book. But whether you read either or both of these novels, you will find it hard not to be engrossed by these tangible and memorable characters.
