odds and ends from friday

  • had to go another round of "no really, i am a student" with the guards at the front gate.
  • managed to get my ID card to settle that. i am considering that arguing might be better than actually showing this picture around. lol. i may enter this in "worst ID photos ever" contest.
  • almost wept in the library at how beautiful it was. yup, geeky, but i have access to such a wealth of resources now and the building itself is gorgeous and it was actually quiet! quiet! that just never happened at undergrad library. ooh, and i get my own little carrel with a little locked cabinet with my name on it. am i cool, or what? i don't know if i will actually do more work or just sit there admiring my own little desk but if you're nice i will let you visit it!
  • decided that the commute isn't that bad when at the end of it i get to walk around this campus. seriously considering bringing a camera next time.
  • fun class. you know it is going well when you are jotting down notes for possible papers and are excited about all the possibilities.
  • listened to steel drum player playing "if you're happy and you know it" in the subway station and people were actually clapping their hands.
  • had to evacuate first train because there was a man collapsed on the seats that they couldn't wake.
  • missed next train by two minutes so had to wait for half an hour
  • caught the express instead! woohoo!
  • fire at one of the stations. we sit on the tracks for 45 minutes.
  • finally get moving and the train in front of us breaks down. we back up a stop to change track. man with lush irish brogue sitting next to me says, "we are going to have to get out and push next." wish he would have said more!
  • make it home after three and a half hours to learn valuable lesson. no matter how brave your 11yr old thinks he is...poltergeist will scare the bejeezus out of him and make the bed very crowded in the middle of the night.
  • and one very cool thing....i got my diploma this week from undergrad. looks like they weren't kidding after all.
