single parent night

hubby is at a meeting tonight and i am on single parent duty. as stressful as this can sometimes be, how is it that bedtime seems to go more smoothly when he isn't home? maybe it is because we stick closer to a schedule. maybe it is because the kids don't have anyone to plead with. maybe it is because i don't feel so resentful that he is sitting watching a show or reading a magazine while i stomp around like a martyr because i don't get any help. not sure. but it is quiet, the boys are in bed (not sleeping yet, but all tucked in) and i am watching gone with the wind in relative peace and quiet.

trivia for you: and no cheating by using google!
in the scene where rhett brings the men back to the house after they have supposedly been at belle's (they told the women they were at a "political meeting" and were really getting revenge for the attempted rape on scarlett) the women (scarlett, india, aunt pitty, melly) are nervously reading david copperfield while the yankees soldiers wait outside. in the novel gwtw, they are reading from a different book. what is it?
