Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos
One of my favorite books that I picked up at the ALA Midwinter Conference in January was Marisa de los Santos' Belong to Me; that book will be released April 1, and I'll post my thoughts about it at that time. Suffice it to say that I fell in love with Belong to Me, and based on that I checked out its prequel, Love Walked In, from my library.
Love Walked In is primarily the story of 31-year-old Cornelia and 11-year-old Clare, whose lives intersect. I don't want to give away the plot, but this is a book about love and about relationships and about what's important in our lives. Clare's chapters are written about the character in the third person, while Cornelia's chapters are in the first person and are very conversational. I love Ms. de los Santos' way of writing Cornelia, who is passionate, witty, imperfect, but very well meaning. Her literary and pop culture references amused me, and I found both of her books to be a joy.
I'd recommend reading Love Walked In before Belong to Me, simply because there are a lot of spoilers if you read the second book first. But these are both lovely stories, and they are both worth reading.
