Thanks to Turtlemama I am leaving this ol' MT blog and heading to my new address....

C'mon over. Things are starting to work again!

I have tried everything I know to make this blog work again. Now I have installed WP so that I can transfer the theme over and start there. Only thing is, I have always worked with MT and now I can't manage to get things looking the way I want over there. Sure, I could go with a boring ol' template. But I want this image and my sidebar.

This just shouldn't be so friggin' hard. And why can't I find anyone to fix this mess? I seriously can't even hire anyone.

I thought once I had the main computer over here and could fiddle a bit I could get my sites to work but they just aren't rebuilding right. I haven't changed anything and I certainly haven't made the same changes on all three for them to all be acting the same way which leads me to believe, very cleverly, that something is up with MT.

Anyone know? Any suggestions?

Odds and ends and errands today.

• Book Group discussion is up over at Overdue Books. We're talking about The Memory Keeper's Daughter so if you've read it, feel free to pop in and chat.
• Trying to find maps and deeds and surveys so we can get closing stuff done. I just love going into downtown state capital area to deal with the helpful staff.
• Have you seen the little picture gadget at the bottom of my sidebar? Go on, check it out, I'll wait. Ok, it's from My Blog Log and it's a nifty, new tracker/blog community tool that lets you actually see who has been to your site. You know, with pictures and a widget. It's fun and free so go on and check it out.
• I managed a whole night's sleep last night. A whole night. At what miraculous age are my kids sleeping through the night do you ask? ummm. 12 and 9. I am not holding my breath that the sleepwalking and insomnia has permanently ceased but a temporary lull is just fine with me.

• That's it. I've got nothing. But I already typed in another little listy thing so I figured I'd put something here. Go on back to blog surfing and procrastinating...wait, that's not just me, is it?

I installed haloscan comments (I think!) so it looks as if I am back in the comments business for now.

Anyone wanna see if they are working?

I still have to tweak and play but for now it appears that the basics work.

If anyone has any idea how to fix my broken comments please let me know. I am completely at a loss. Usually when they act wonky for others I can still access them here. Now I have nothing. I haven't changed anything. They just stopped.

Things have been crazy here. C is going to play 8 AllStars. We took him over and he had a lot of fun and told us he liked it there better. That's all that counts. We are putting him where he is happy.

During the whole tryout fiasco we kept telling him "there's no crying in baseball." So when he was crying after missing a popup we told him to shake it off. Turns out there was something wrong with his ankle. In the car he took his shoe off and it started to swell. There's a cut on the back that is infected and the infection is now about 4-5 inches up his calf. There was nothing there at all before the game. The doctor's took a look (and a culture) and gave him some antibiotics but we're keeping an eye on it. Of course, this didn't stop him from playing ball this week. He wouldn't have any of that. And since the Dr. said he could play if he felt like it....he was out there.

Crazy weekend, but we are going to meet the 86 Mets at Great Adventure tomorrow. Everyone is very excited.

i think everything is working now. i have had the idea for this skin in the back of my head for a while and spring training has me longing for baseball--real baseball--with all of its cliched sights and sounds.

two sick kids home today so i am spending lots of time online playing with designs, doing a little research and oohing and aahing over cheeky's addition to the family.

i found a link to his post jesus 'n me through one of my favorite blogs pesky apostrophe. (if you aren't reading mac you are truly missing out!)

it was nice to read a well written post and then sit for a bit stunned that such a post could provoke calm, thoughful discussion and not ranting, raving and nonsense. i will definitely go back and read more.

i decided to download google talk. AIM has been acting wonky on my computer lately and i can't say i am broken hearted about leaving anything aol.

only trouble? not a lot of people signed up yet so umm...i have no one to talk to.

thanks to upsydaisy productions i have a snazzy new wonkalicious skin for the blog. they did a great job of giving me exactly what i was looking for.


took my mom to see charlie and the chocolate factory friday. the kids were begging to see it again. i have to say that as much as i enjoyed it the first time, this time was better. without the pressure of trying to identify changes between old movie and new movie or between the book and movie, it was just a treat to watch. i have always loved the story--it's partly nostalgia, partly roald dahl's style, and partly the simple joy of watching rotten kids get what they deserve. throw in some chocolate and what more could you want?


on today's agenda...a haircut and hallelujah i will be blond again by the afternoon. well, you know, not that i am not blond anyway ;) nothing like a little pampering, a good cut and some highlights, to brighten up a day.

No really! I do. Ok, it's a surprise...but I will show you really soon.

i was working on repairing the book review site all morning. yes, i could have actually been writing reviews...they're coming, they're coming!

but i did manage to fix the bugs and make a new skin.

few quirks left though:

does anyone know why it isn't linking to the stylesheets on the archive pages? anyone?

and i am a dork and deleted the code to list category entries under the category. (like a last ten entry but by category) anyone wanna help me out? i am computer fried and haven't done a thing around here all morning.

on edit: i managed to get the entries to list but they are not links...

at least it is working for the most part and now people *cough**cough* can start posting reviews again!

how much i love dell?


well, guess what just arrived? yup. my laptop. all fixed with a new keyboard and a new system board and some other bits and pieces. and no charge at all.


back and working with all of its memory intact. i didn't lose one document. i sent it out at 6:00 or so on monday and it is here by 2:15 on wednesday.


i can't say enough about their customer service and i am soooo happy to have my laptop back (and all my research!) i would never buy from anyone else. what more could i have asked for?

remember the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad thing that happened to my laptop?


i called dell who informed me that my laptop was out of contract for the warranty. i had to wait til this morning to speak with the out-of-contract department.


tech guy: ok, mrs d. you can send that to us. just take out the hard drive and we will take care of it.
me: i don't know how to take out the hard drive. i apparently don't even plug it in without blowing it up. do you know how much this will cost?
tech guy: this type of repair costs $699.00
me: *starts crying*
tech guy: ummm, mrs d? hello? please don't cry.
me:i'm sorry *sniff* it's just that i just got that laptop and i can't afford a new one and for $699 i might as well just get a new one and i really like mine. *sobbing now*
tech guy: hold on one minute
i sit sniffling like a baby, listening to the hold music while he checks something, probably referrals for therapy
tech guy: mrs d, you are only out of contract by 10 days. we aren't going to charge you for that. i am sending a delivery person to your house with a box, he will wait while you package the laptop, we will have it back to you in 7 working days.


i then thank him profusely for being the kindest, coolest and bestest tech guy ever in the history of all tech guys. i love him. no, really.


so buy from dell. go there right now. you know you want new toys. i swear i would buy anything from them. dell pjs? sure. dell cookies? no problem. dell underwear? sign me up. but mostly dell computers because i cannot tell you how happy i am right now.

is it bad when you hear a pop noise from the laptop?

is it bad when there is smoke?

is it bad that it won't power up any more?

is it bad when the tech support people laugh at you?

is it bad when they use words like "new motherboard" and "out of contract support?"

yeah....that's what i thought.

ummm. it was free help. so that should make it better.

my sister (whose blog it would be pointless to link to right now) asked me to help her get her blog functioning again. she promised me that she would be blogging and reading and posting to the book blog.

so i ummm, i helped. no really. i tried to help. i even triedto upgrade her to mt3.15. yeah, so i am apparently not as brilliant as i originally thought. and now instead of limping along on an old version with a few quirks....she has nothing.


thank goodness for techmoxie who will hopefully bail me out for a reasonable fee. yes, i am now going to be paying to help.

at least the game is on. so i can finish up reading for class while listening to a little baseball.
