Mom of the year ... again

C got a call to sub for the 10-11yr olds in the playoffs. He was very excited so we dressed him in his gear and raced over.

When we got there it turned out that the other kid finally showed and C couldn't play. He was bummed but had a catch with Dad and watched all the other games.

Until.......

"Mom! What time is it????"

"8:00. Why?"

***cue scream of death and many, many tears***

"My party. My party. I missed my graduation party!"

Yup. The graduation/beach party that we suffered clothes shopping for and bought the perfect beach party outfit? Completely blew it. We got there as they were cleaning.

He got to pick up his gifts and run around with the stragglers but missed the whole thing.

I suck.

a truly frightening halloween event

my son's elementary school has a sort of valet kid drop off service. you pull up along the curb in the circular drive, drop off (or pick up) your child, and move on. simple, yes?

there are a few rules that apparently don't apply to everyone and i will spare you the rants on no parking on the line or no left turn out of the lot--for the purpose of this fright fest i will stick to just one rule: pull up all the way to let everyone get to the curb.

and that's what i was attempting to do. i had to stop though to allow people to run directly in front of my car. they didn't look. they didn't acknowledge the huge ass car moving towards them. they just walked in front of me. so i stopped.

and that's my mistake. i was going to pull all the way up, you know, like you are supposed to do. but the aide on the sidewalk didn't know that. she opened my back door and started to get c out just as i started to pull all the way forward. in the second that it took for me to realize what happened there was screaming, a lot of screaming, and the witch on the sidewalk was glaring at me and c was down on the ground screaming and crying.

so i broke the rules. i leapt out of my now parked car and ran around to see c lying on the ground holding his foot. luckily, the car didn't roll over his foot but it "just" pinched it between the tire and sidewalk. it is scraped up and bruised pretty good, but nothing is broken. but my poor little limping ghoul, with his hair all painted black and black streaks running down his little face where the tears were washing away his make-up, was terrified.

i brought him home for a bit, gave him some ice and halloween candy ('cause chocolate fixes everything!) and brought him back to school to have his party and parade. we were lucky.

apparently, i am once more out of the running for mother of the year.

that's enough of a scare for one halloween, 'k?
