sorry. nope. not going to do it.
i haven't had a first day of school picture in 17 years a really long time and i am not turning back now!
but, because you are all anxiously waiting - i will give you the official "i am back in classes" update.
short version -
the fraggle got his haircut and is oodles of non-pc fun.
i am extremely fired up about my night course
i don't dance. nope. i trip. i bumble. i step on the occasional toe. but no one has ever confused it with dancing.
don't fret kids - there's a long version . lol
after a trying day of waiting in lines to wait in line just to get in another line so that i would finally have the priviledge of paying out $983745938475938 to go to school i finally straightened out the mess. at least for now.
so with my little bookbag all packed with fun new pens and notebooks (i love back to school stuff!) off i went to queer theory.
looking at the syllabus gave me a little cause for concern. it is going to be heavy workload. but once ryan (the professor) got there i was reminded of why i love school. ok, not school, but classes like these. upper level courses where people actually think and contribute. some people.
apparently some people misunderstood the title of the course.
queer theory. no, we aren't going to teach you how to be queer. and no, just because you are doesn't mean you are qualified to teach this course or that you already know all of this info or that we even care what you have to say.
i am one of two straight people in a course with about 10-12 students. it is a whole lot of fun. there are one or two people who just want to tell us their life stories and we should all stand and clap and admire them. feh. they will quit the first time we do any real work.
that wasn't, however, last night. last night we watched queer eye fior the straight guy and boy meets boy and then discussed the "progress" of gay representation in the media. it was fun. it was heated and besides the one or two people mentioned above, it was fairly intelligent.
ryan is funny, a little verbose, extremely politically-incorrect, liberal, thoughtful, and a great teacher. oh, and he lost the fraggle haircut. still has the backpack though.
i came home all fired up and excited and feeling great.
then this morning. "survey of dance history." stop laughing. it's required.
i took this. not intro to dance or intro to ballet or any other such nonsense, because. i. don't. dance. yes, i have been known to hit the dance floor at a wedding or after a few drinks at a party. but i mean dance as an art.
and what was the first thing we did this morning? uh huh
dance
a room full of non-morning people dancing away with little miss polly perky sunshine.
it wasn't too bad. but it was hot and sticky and not in a good way. out of mutual sympathy though the class got to know each other fairly quickly. i guess that was the idea. but a little warning next time would be great.
oh. and to the poor guy behind me. really sorry about those toes.
so now i am off to take a bath, light a few candles, and straighten things up around here before the monsters descend.
stay tuned. i still have four more classes to start.
