monday. sheesh, that was fast.
i spent the weekend getting a sneak preview of living with a teenager. granted, this particular teenager is extremely well behaved and polite (i.e. not typical) but still a little glimpse into life in a few years. got to stay up til the wee hours waiting for her to get in and then pretend, in tradtional sitcom-like fashion, not to have been trying to stay awake but to have been very cool and up that late all the time. my kids had fun having an extra person to torture so that is always good.
the frozen squirrel...it was late and we had just gotten in, so i decide that the boys can stay up a little to unwind if they relax in the oldest's room and watch a movie. it's quiet. i should've known better. that's never a good sign. but then the oldest comes running out of my room. my room. wearing snow boots, his underwear and goggles.
"mom, you gotta see this!"
"why were you in my room?"
"i wasn't in your room. we snuck out my window and connor found a frozen squirrel!!" hmmm, gee, well at least they weren't in my room. snuck out the window? they are way too young to be starting that!!
we make our way to the back and there is my youngest. outside. in snowboots, a cordoroy work shirt, a zorro hat, and black gloves. he is holding two sticks proudly out in front of him. on these sticks he is balancing the incredible frozen squirrel.
"umm. guys. i don't think he is frozen" it's july. it's hot. this squirrel isn't in the least bit cold.
"yes he is mom. look! he is hard and he isn't moving at all!!"
ewwwww! "ok, everyone back in the house. bed right now!"
after a thorough hand washing i get them off to bed, inform hubby about the frozen friend on the deck and send him out to take care of it.
in the morning i hear excited screams from the deck
"mom he thawed and ran away!!"
never a dull moment around here.
last little thing. i am trying to install a bulletin board on the blog. mostly it is for mets discussions, although i am going to open a few general forums as well. i generally frequent another bb for the mets, but lately i am exasperated by people who make it their lives to belittle everyone else. i just want to talk about the game, maybe complain a little, but not make it the goal of every post, and talk to some other people who have lived through the ups and downs and downs of being a mets fan. come there and talk if you want. but first....anyone who has any suggestions on getting this thing started, i would be happy to listen. i am trying to install phpBB but my limited computer skills are not helpful. hopefully soon i will have things up and running.
Hey - I have a frozen squirrel in front of my house. Ick! Hopefully animal control will remove it quickly!
I loved this story - and I can laugh - an out-loud, head-thrown-back laugh -
Why? because I think these boys are incredibly inventive, exciting, adventurous and cute(and they're my grandsons)! but also because -
I DON'T HAVE BOYS, AND WILL NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH "FROZEN CREATURES FROM THE DARK BACKYARD".
Girls (at least mine) are not nearly brave enough to venture out into the dark of night armed with nothing but a flashlight. Kudos to those brave boys! (OK, then again, you don't have to live with Lizzie McGuire!)
