The Underground Baseball Encyclopedia by Robert Schnakenberg

The Underground Baseball Encyclopedia by Robert Schnakenberg is not your typical sports encyclopedia. It doesn't focus on records or statistics or the things one would usually find in a sports encyclopedia. Instead, it provides accounts of the odd stories of the game, from dwarfs to mascots to ballgirls to wife-swapping to steroids. It's in no way comprehensive, but it's an entertaining and light read.

This would be a nice holiday gift for a fledgling baseball fan who understands baseall but who is not up to speed with the behind the scenes stories that make the game so interesting.
