Finding It: And Satisfying My Hunger For Life Without Opening The Fridge, by Valerie Bertinelli
As I have written before, Valerie Bertinelli is my weight loss role model. Last March I read her first book, Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound At A Time. Valerie has written a follow up book - Finding It: And Satisfying My Hunger For Life Without Opening The Fridge. While Losing It was the story of Valerie's weight loss, Finding It is the story of her maintenance.
I have been at my goal weight for almost seven months, so this was the perfect time for me to read Finding It. Maintenance is the lifelong challenge to keep off the weight loss, and I found it helpful to be able to read about and empathize with Valerie's trials and tribulations. Finding It also picks up Valerie's life where Losing It left off, including Valerie's search for spirituality and meaning in life.
As with Losing It, Finding It isn't great literature. On the other hand, it feels like a visit with an old, familiar friend. And as I am continuing to work on improving myself and preparing to run a marathon (something I never would have done without Valerie's influence), Finding It was the right book for me at the right time in my life.
