The Meadowlands: Wilderness Adventures on the Edge of a City by Robert Sullivan
A couple of weeks ago I went to the Jets game with my friend Greg, who was reminded of Robert Sullivan's book, The Meadowlands: Wilderness Adventures on the Edge of a City. This is a nonfiction book about New Jersey's famous swampland and its history and infamy. Sullivan discusses geography, history, toxic waste and where the bodies are buried. While at times this can be a dry read, it's worth sticking with it for its jaw-dropping tidbits (such as the number of New York Giants who developed serious health problems during the team's first seasons in New Jersey). For fans of nonfiction and those interested in the history of an area we tend to drive through more than visit, The Meadowlands is an eye-opener.
