Language

Did you ever read a book that you loved more for the style than the story?

I am reading Little, Big (P.S.) right now. And while I am loving the story, the magic comes more from the language and the style of the author. I am always surprised at the choices he makes, the non-linear way the story moves back and forth between worlds, the way he describes the poetic in mundane terms and the ordinary in flowing prose.

Has anyone else read this? Let me know if anyone is up for a discussion. With little time to read, I find myself sneaking off to a quiet place just to get through a chapter or even a paragraph or two.

on edit: I just made a serious impulse purchase. It turns out that there is a special 25th anniversary limited release edition of this book coming out this spring. To let you know how much I am enjoying this novel, I just ordered it without having finished the book. Now let's just hope the bill/receipt for that slips by, shall we? Spending money on books. What was I thinking? Just because Sparky is right now in the new living room building me shelves? I'm weak. I know it.
